ARTIFICIAL FLOATING ISLAND FOR RIVER TERNS - GDANSK

The Association for Supporting Bird-Friendly Investments supports bird-friendly investments, and some of them I implement myself.

Thanks to cooperation with the Association, with joint efforts we managed to launch a nesting platform for river terns at the Swietokrzyska II retention reservoir in Gdansk in 2022.

Under natural conditions, the river tern does not have an easy life - fluctuating water levels, overgrowth of islands or high predation pressure make natural nesting sites less and less available. Nesting platforms are a proven and effective method of creating artificial, alternative nesting habitats for this species. Also in urban environments.

The project is implemented thanks to financial support from the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Gdansk and in partnership with the reservoir's administrator, Gdańskie Woda company. Thank you for your interest and support of our initiative!
